So, normally I get nervous hanging things that need to be centered and measured and spaced out evenly, BUT today, I was feeling a little anxious and decided..."I can do this!" I found this cute letter "B" for "Blocker" yesterday at Kohl's (a whooping$6.49!!)and thought it would be a great idea to make a collage of the boys beach pictures that we took last summer! Here is the finished product! I pat myself on the back, it really wasn't as hard as I was making it out to be! On to the next thing....

Well, last week they started on our basement! Mike, the carpenter (and friend of our family) came last week to finish framing and getting the basement ready for the drywaller's to come on Monday! The material company came yesterday, dropped off all the drywall material and today "they" came...."they" meaning the massive crew of drywallers arrived at 10:30am and by 1:30 pm we actually had walls and a ceiling! Man, these guys work FAST!!!! I will post some before/after pics! I wish I had more pics of the unfinished part but I only have 2, you'll get the idea ;)We can't wait to see the finished product!!!!!!!

California Pizza Kitchen ® BBQ Chicken Chopped Salad

Ok, who doesnt LOVE California Pizza Kitchen! I do for sure and so do my boys! My ultimate favorite salad of all time comes from this place! I think its more the Garlic Herb Dressing that just makes this salad so, when I did some research on the web to copy this recipe, I was thrilled to find it online! I am actually headed out tonight to buy all of the ingredients (its alot) to make this for dinner tonight! Im so excited, I had to share with all of my blogging friends! Enjoy!

For the Garden Herb Ranch Dressing:

1/2 teaspoon dry mustard

1/4 teaspoon cold water

2 3/4 cups mayonnaise

1 cup buttermilk

7 tablespoons sour cream

2 1/2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar

1 1/2 tablespoons thinly-sliced scallion greens and whites

2 teaspoons minced garlic

2 teaspoons minced fresh Italian parsley

1 1/2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce

1 teaspoon minced fresh dill

1/2 teaspoon minced fresh oregano (or 1/4 tspn dried oregano)

1/2 teaspoon freshly-ground black pepper

1/4 teaspoon minced fresh basil

For the Grilled Garlic BBQ Chicken:

1 1/3 tablespoons olive oil

1 1/3 tablespoons minced garlic

2 teaspoons soy sauce

2 teaspoons salt

4 boned skinned chicken breasts - (5 oz ea)

1/4 cup good-quality sweet-&-spicy barbecue sauce

For the Salad:

1/2 head iceberg lettuce -- cored, rinsed, dried, and cut 1/8"-wide strips

1/2 head romaine lettuce leaves -- separated, trimmed, rinsed, dried, and cut 1/8"-wide strips

12 large fresh basil leaves -- cut 1/8" strips

1 pound jicama -- cut 1/4" x 1/4" x 3/4" strips

2 cups shredded Monterey Jack cheese

1 cup canned black beans -- rinsed, drained

1 cup canned sweet white corn kernels -- drained

3 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro

2 pounds fresh ripe tomatoes -- cut 1/2" dice1/2 cup good-quality

sweet-&-spicy barbecue sauce

1/4 cup thinly-sliced scallion greens

To Make the Garden Herb Ranch Dressing:

In a mixing bowl, use a fork to stir together the mustard and cold water, forming a paste. Set aside for 10 minutes. Add the remaining dressing ingredients to the bowl and, using a handheld electric mixer at low speed or a whisk, blend together just until smooth, taking care not to incorporate too much air into the dressing. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate.

To Make the Grilled Garlic BBQ Chicken:

Preheat a stovetop grill or the broiler. In a mixing bowl, stir together the olive oil, garlic, soy sauce, and salt. Turn the chicken breasts in this marinade and leave to marinate at room temperature for about 15 minutes. Grill or broil the chicken breasts until cooked through, 5 to 6 minutes per side. Chill thoroughly in the refrigerator. Cut the chicken breasts into 3/4-inch cubes and, in a bowl, toss with the barbecue sauce to coat well. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate.

To Make the Salad:

In a large mixing bowl, toss together the lettuces, basil, jicama, Monterey Jack cheese, beans, corn, cilantro, dressing, and half of the Fried Tortilla Strips. Transfer the salads to chilled serving plates. Surround each salad with diced tomatoes and the remaining Fried Tortilla Strips. Top each salad with chunks of Grilled Garlic BBQ Chicken and drizzle the chicken with the barbecue sauce. Garnish with the scallion.

The writings on the wall...

Yesterday, I went on the hunt to Hobby Lobby (one of my faves) for vinyl wall letters, you've seen them....the little quotes or sayings that adhere to the wall in your entry way, kitchen etc. and when you want to remove it, it peels right off! They are so adorable and oh so smart (wish I would of thought of this idea) This is what I was on the hunt for my entryway......But instead...I have this thing called (SADD, Shopping Attention Deficit Disorder) I ended up with this....
(Two @8.00 a piece) for my mantle!
This looks great in my dining room (4.00)The 11.00 vase (which by the way happens to matches the fabric on my cornice AND my new bench in the entryway) and my cute little 5.00 Fleur de lei!

Last but not least, (sorry no pics, my battery is low) 2 Large Sea grass Baskets with lids for the top of my wall unit (6.00 a piece) and a cute wrought iron towel holder for 1.50!! JACKPOT!!! Thank YOOOUU Hobby Lobby, I just love a bargain!

Well, the invites are out and we are sooo excited for our Open House Party in July! I think the invites turned out pretty cute if I do say so myself! We are still working on the house, getting things organized and decorated just in time for the party! Lots to do and little time to do it! I wish there were more hours in the day! Though the summer is just beginning...the boys really have taken to the neighborhood well! They have met ~all sorts of friends~ Deer, snakes, turtles and frogs are just to name a few! Yes, they all have names too! Who needs a pet when we have a neighborhood of animals in our backyard! I guess the saying is true, snips and snails and puppydog tails...thats what little boys are made of! Well, at least MY boys are anyway!

Eclectic Style

Everyone has a style whether it be modern, contemporary, traditional, eclectic etc. I enjoy a mix of everything! I would say I am more of an eclectic style. I cant stress enough how many deals I find on Craigslist! Not only just in Louisville but, I do a search all over the country for items! Check out these little cuties I found today on Cincinatti Craigslist! They should look great in my kitchen! They are from Southern Living at Home (of course) and are called The Tuscan Trio by artist Janet Beaver! These canvas paintings are retired but will be working wonderfully in my home and at only 25.00 for the set of 3 paintings (regularly 99.00 I believe) I just couldnt pass it up!

Summer-time Honey Chicken Salad!!!

So, I went to The Cheddar Box the other day with my mom for lunch and fell in love with their honey chicken salad!! I wasnt able to get the recipe online so I did some digging and found this fabulous recipe from Southern Living...it had all the ingredients that The Cheddar Box had! I cant wait to make it!

Ingredients
4 cups chopped cooked chicken
3 celery ribs, diced (about 1 1/2 cups)
1 cup cranrasins (Ocean Spray)
1/2 cup chopped pecans, toasted
1 1/2 cups mayonnaise
1/3 cup honey
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
Garnish: chopped toasted pecans
Preparation
1. Combine first 4 ingredients.
2. Whisk together mayonnaise and next 3 ingredients. Add to chicken mixture, stirring gently until combined. Garnish, if desired.

Today, I decided to take on the challenge (and I mean challenge) of hanging window treatments in my boys rooms! I think this time I have finally learned my lesson to HIRE this job out!!! My husband would probably laugh hysterically if he were a fly on the wall watching this! I am the type person, when I want something done....Iwantitdonerightthenandthereandnothingornooneisgoingtostopme!!! LOL!! Today the potty words were flyin! *thank goodness the boys were at summer camp* I really do hate this job but somebody has to do it! They did turn out cute in the end and I am now ready to put the final touches on the rooms! Whew!!

6 Years and Counting....

Yesterday (June 6th) marked our 6 year ~Wedding Anniversary~ We had such a great evening, having dinner and being able to have one-on-one time to spend together, which as most of you understand with kids, those moments are few and far between! My mom kept the boys while we had a night out! We had dinner at Stoney River (if you have never eaten there before, I HIGHLY recommend it! Its FAN-TAB-U-LOUS!!!) Then, we met up with friends at Brendons for a few drinks and conversation (Imagine that, I was able to have a dinner without sharing AND have a conversation without being interupted...WOW!)

Thanks honey for a wonderful time, Happy Anniversary! I look forward to many years to come! XOXXO

After a wonderful weekend with friends, its nice to come home and relax....but to relax AND be entertained with hot air balloons soaring over our house, who would have guessed! My boys were so excited to sit on the porch and take it all in! I wish I had thought to grab my camera sooner but, I was able to capture a couple of pics! Ahhh, the joys of summer!

Well, today has been a mixture of emotions for me as my precious boy Gavin, graduated preschool today! As I sat in the church pew, my eyes welled up with tears when I started to reminisce of all the milestones he has reached in such a short amount of time! I cant believe we have a son getting ready for kindergarten in the fall! Where has the time gone! We are so proud of the accomplishments he has achieved and we look forward to many more! Good job Gav, Mommy and Daddy couldn't be more happier and proud of our little (big) boy! (wink, wink)

I must say, we are a very talented family...from music to art we have been very blessed to have been given the gift of creativity! I HAVE to brag a bit on my younger brother (Cameron) he is not only one of the best musicians (he plays drums) in my opinion. You have to see it to believe it, he truly is amazing! He also has the ability to draw (wonder where he gets it...hmmm...there really is no comparison, LOL) he is WAY more talented than I could ever dream! He gave me one of the best gifts this past Christmas and I have the pleasure of sharing it with you! You be the judge....

Busy, busy is my new middle name as we are still unpacking and PUTTING away! I really am trying to declutter and get rid of all things we just dont need or use. Whats the rule, if you havent used it or worn it in a year....toss it! Thats my new motto, it seems to be working pretty well!

In the mist of all the chaos, I am in the beginning stages of PLANNING for our 1st House-warming party set for some time in July! I figure that should give us enough time to get our house in order instead of it looking like you stepped in a UPS warehouse! LOL!! While digging deep, looking for my cookbooks and recipes, I gave finally gave up and searched the web for some great party ideas! I think we are going to do a "Tapas" Theme party with Cuban flair! Mojitos here we come! I will sift through some recipes or if anyone has any recipes to share feel free to leave me a comment! I love trying new things!

I cant wait to P-A-R-T-Y!!!!!!!!!

Here is Gavin and Grants bathroom, I couldnt decide which theme to go with and I wanted something that would grow with them....so, beach theme seemed perfect with that PBK green! I guess you could say the Blockers have gone GREEN so to speak! LOL!!!

Here is the little nook in our entryway, as you know I have been on the hunt for the perfect bench, instead I decided to go practical and went with the storage bench! A nice place to hide all of those shoes!

Well, we are so glad to finally be in our new home, we sure went through heck and back to get here! Lets just say we wont be moving for a while! Jury duty, car breaking down, Drunk driver hits our UHAUL and the list goes on! We are busy, busy getting things put away and making our house our own! The boys have taken to the change very well! Tuesday, the nice guys from Chenoweth Appliances delievered our appliances! Yesterday, my uncle installed them all for us! Here is the outcome.....YA!!!

Decorating Diva!!!

I am on the hunt....as most of you know, I LOVE to decorate! I thought I would share with you some fabulous finds (many at local antique shops or yard sales or good ole Craigslist...my fave)

This fabric is the inspiration for my dining room which will also set the tone for the rest of the house! My mom and I purchased this fabric to cover a cornice box that I bought off of Craigslist for 25.00!!! Can you believe its going to fit my windows perfectly!! I will post more pics when the project is complete!

Help!!! I am on the hunt for a black bench for my entryway! I would love to find one like the picture above!

I had to post a pic of my 6.00 pillows! Yes, thats right...6 bucks! The pic above is of chocolate brown, I bought ice blue for our living room couch! I just love a bargain!

As we quickly approach our closing date (May 6th), I find myself reflecting on the wonderful memories we all shared in this great little house! We have some of the best neighbors, even though we arent moving far....they will be greatly missed! Dickie, will surely be the one to miss it the most, he has lived in this house since he was in 8th grade! As I am blogging about this, I have to admit....it brings a tear to my eye! Well, on to other things, good-bye Ellis Way!
